Economic Development Plan

  • In 1997, citizens voted by 92% to establish a Sidney Economic Development Plan
    • Allocated $2.5 million in development incentives
    • Highest favorable vote on an economic development plan in the history of the State of Nebraska for any community
  • In 2007, citizens voted to renew Sidney Economic Development Plan for another 10 years
    • Allocated $3 million in development incentives
  • In November 2016, citizens voted to renew Sidney Economic Development Plan beginning in 2017 for another 10 years
    • Allocated $3 million in development incentives
  • In 2018, citizens voted to review the Sidney Economic Development Plan allowing the City to accept funds through grants, donations and other applicable federal funds. 
  • In 2020, the City Council authorized new uses of funds to include housing and childcare projects.
