[ARCHIVED] GOLF COURSE TO OPEN WEDNESDAY, CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES

The Hillside Golf Course hopes to open Wednesday (March 12) if weather permits. Construction on the new irrigation system for the golf course will also resume on Wednesday. The project began last Fall before cold weather shut construction down until Spring.

Initially the Back 9 will be closed for a week to 10 days beginning March 12 to get the irrigation system installed on the greens. Once completed, the Back 9 will open and the Front 9 will then close for three weeks to install the fairway laterals and on the greens. Once the Front 9 project is complete, it will reopen and then the Back 9 will close again for the fairway irrigation system project to begin. The staff wanted to prioritize the installation of the system affecting the greens for immediate watering purposes and that’s the purpose behind the back and forth staggering of closing the respective nines.

Sidney Director of Golf, Chuck Christensen, is hopeful the project will move along swiftly this Spring so that the entire 18 holes of the course can be open for play by late spring or early summer with the goal to have all 18 holes available for public play by at least the time the Wednesday night League play begins. Contractors have until mid-June for full completion and getting the finishing touches in place, and weather permitting, are hopeful of getting the entire project done sooner.

League play is set to begin on Tuesday, May 20 for the women’s league and Monday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 21 for the two men’s leagues. Because of the heavy demand and waiting list for the Wednesday evening League, Christensen said teams must pay their League dues by May 1 or have their spots forfeited to those on the waiting list. Stop by the Pro Shop to pay the League dues and secure your spots in the respective leagues. For those playing last year, a letter will be sent out later this week with further details. If you have any questions you can all the Pro Shop at 254-2311.
