Bob Olsen has lived in Sidney for 21 years. Prior to moving to Sidney, he worked in many different communities in the Midwest/West including Illinois, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, and California. Bob studied journalism at Brigham Young University-Idaho. He served as a News Director and General Manager at several TV stations in Colorado and Nebraska as well as various positions in radio broadcasting. Bob and his family settled in Sidney in 1996 to accept a position with Security First Bank. He has been the SFB Director of Insurance since 1997, supervising between 8 and 12 insurance agencies in Nebraska and South Dakota. From 2005 to 2016, he was also the President of the Security First Bank’s Sidney branch. He serves on the organization’s Executive Management Committee. Bob holds an Executive Officer’s License from the Nebraska Department of Banking and is licensed as an Insurance Producer in NE, WY, SD, KS, and MT.
Bob has been active in the community serving on Sidney’s Economic Development Advisory Committee for the last several years. He is a past president of the Sidney Kiwanis Civic Club and a past Lt. Governor for the Rocky Mountain Kiwanis District. He also served several years on the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce’s Newcomers Committee.
Bob and his wife, Judy, have been married for 39 years and have three children: Jock of North Platte, Luke of Sidney, and Adina of Lincoln. He also has two grandchildren, Jordan and Shaylee.
Bob has been on the City Council since April of 2017.
