Sidney, previously known as Fort Sidney, was officially incorporated as a municipality on October 8, 1884. Sidney is considered a first class city and has had a council/city manager form of government for over 50 years. Five people serve on the city council elected at large and the council every two years chooses its chairman, which serves as the City’s Mayor. The City of Sidney has dedicated public employees in a number of different departments to help you meet your needs. The city employs over 100 full and part time employees. The city provides an all inclusive electrical, water, sewer, waste recycling, power plant, fire, golf, transportation bus, inspection, zoning and planning, parks, cemetery, swimming pool, police, airport, street, library, waste water treatment and various other services. Here you’ll find the magic created by Nature’s abundance and Man’s creativity. Friendly faces, clear skies, beautiful sunsets, moderate climate, low humidity, a diversity of seasons, low crime rate, family values and a respect for our natural resources. We LOVE this town!
